Account for every residual stream

List separator skim, flotation sludge, filter backwash and chemical-cleaning waste where those processes are installed. Record expected quantities, variability and physical properties. The liquid fraction can dominate storage and transport demand. Ask whether the supplier’s capacity figure includes time and water used for cleaning, because gross feed rate and net usable output are different measures.

Check handling under difficult conditions

Review how oily solids settle, transfer and dewater in the proposed arrangement. A stream that pumps easily when fresh may behave differently after storage. Include suitable access for cleaning and the approved method for handling blocked lines. Specify containment and waste characterization requirements with the facility operator rather than assuming all residuals share one disposal route.

Compare net operating output

Include downtime for cleaning, consumables, wash water and residual transport in the operating estimate. Evaluate whether residual handling can continue when a filter or treatment stage is unavailable. Keep measurement points for both product water and waste streams. A balanced record helps distinguish changing feed quality from a loss of process performance.
