Start with the operating duty, not a model number

A useful specification begins with the job the equipment must complete. Ask the supplier to show the duty point on a curve, heat balance or capacity calculation where applicable. Ratings should identify whether they are continuous, intermittent or short-duration. Auxiliary systems deserve the same attention as the headline component. Cooling, lubrication, filtration, drains, relief paths, earthing, fire protection and operator access often determine field reliability.
