Describe variation rather than one sample

Provide the expected timeline of return rates and composition, including early solids and later changes in salinity or additives. One laboratory sample cannot describe the full treatment duty. Identify which changes are measured and which remain estimates. The supplier needs this range to review separation, dosing, filtration and residual handling capacity.

Use storage to manage the process boundary

Equalization can moderate some variations but does not remove contaminants by itself. Determine usable volume from the rate profile and allowable treatment feed, with appropriate mixing and containment review. Distinguish surge protection from long-term storage. If the inflow exceeds treatment capacity for an extended period, a small buffer will not resolve the capacity deficit.

Define routing when feed is unsuitable

Set criteria for holding, blending where approved, retreating or diverting water outside the package’s accepted envelope. Record the condition and quantity of each segregated stream. Feed control should protect downstream equipment while preserving a traceable water balance. Update the operating basis as actual flowback data becomes available rather than continuing to rely on the initial forecast.
